Medical / Allied Health Support Technician

This program provides students with skills necessary to be responsible for high-level front-and back-office functions. Medical /Allied Health Support Technicians' responsibilities range from front-office work performing tasks such as updating and filing patients’ medical records, insurance billing and coding, transcribing physician notes, answering telephones, greeting patients, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, and handling billing and bookkeeping. Back-office tasks such as assisting in taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients and assisting physicians for examinations, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, performing basic laboratory test, disposing of contaminated supplies, and sterilizing medical instruments, preparing and administering medications, phlebotomy, preparing patients for x rays, taking electrocardiograms, assisting in minor office surgery, and other duties associated with assisting medical professionals. This program will also provide students with the principles of renal dialysis, preparing, monitoring, and maintaining dialysis equipment.

Upon completion of our Medical / Allied Health Support Technician program, the graduate will be prepared for employment as an entry-level Administrative Medical Assistant, Front Office Specialist, Medical Records & Health Information Technician, Medical Transcriptionist, Medical Secretary, Billing & Coding Specialist, Hospital Admissions Clerk, Medical Receptionist, Patient Coordinator, Clinical Medical Assistant, EKG Technician, Phlebotomist, and Assistant Dialysis Technician, Scanner/Billing Clerk, Unit Clerk, Patient Care Technician, Insurance Verification Clerk, Medical Office Administrator, Collections Clerk, Medical Office Technician, Explanation Of Benefits (EOB) Clerk, Healthcare Technician, Medical Office Coordinator, Medical Supply Clerk, Patient Advocate, and Minor Surgical Procedures Assistant.

This program qualifies graduates to test in the National Center for Competency Testing for the Medical Assistants, Phlebotomists, and the Insurance & Coding Specialists certifications.
